RAC BACKS CALL FOR DROP IN DRINK-DRIVE LIMIT

The RAC is calling on the government to reduce the blood alcohol limit in both England and Wales. A majority of drivers want a change in the law and it looks like it is finally being listened to. The 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood limit has been in place for years now however Scotland have made the decision to cut this to 50mg. Nearly 2,000 motorists were questioned and they were all asked if they believe if the driving limit should be lowered. 38% of people stated that they wanted the drink drive limit to be reduced to 50mg and 21% of the UK want it lowered even further to 20mg.

If you want to become a driving instructor then this is certainly something that you need to be aware of. The concerns with this stem from the fact that there has been an increase in accidents before this new rule was brought into place. On top of this, since the limit was introduced in 2014, the number of drunk driving offenses fell by over 12% and this is just one of the many reasons why people are calling for it to be lowered even more.

There is no telling whether or not the limit will be lowered even more or not but at the end of the day, it is great to see that the RAC are backing such a movement. If the new limit is imposed then it will be beneficial to everyone because the number of accidents could potentially be reduced and with companies such as RAC backing it, it is great to see that everyone is coming together to try and make this happen. Of course, there are some people who believe that the limit should not be lowered but you can’t argue with the statistics and how they correlate to road accidents.
